The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) today announced the launch of a stablecoin issuer sandbox to communicate regulatory expectations to institutions interested in issuing fiat stablecoins in Hong Kong and to gather participants’ views on the proposed regulatory requirements. Applicants must have a genuine willingness and reasonable plan to develop a stablecoin issuance business in Hong Kong, and the proposed operation of the participants under the Sandbox will be carried out within a limited scope and with controllable risks, and the list of participants will be published on the HKMA website and updated in due course.
