According to Bloomberg, Nasdaq plans to launch a cryptocurrency custody service by the end of the second quarter. Ira Auerbach, senior VP and head of digital assets at Nasdaq, said Nasdaq is moving forward with all necessary technology infrastructure and regulatory approval processes. Custody of Bitcoin and Ether will be the first step in building an extensive suite of services for the group’s digital assets division, eventually including the execution of services for financial institutions. Nasdaq will join large financial firms such as BNY Mellon and Fidelity that offer cryptocurrency custody. Others are focused on tokenizing traditional assets such as bonds, hoping that the underlying technology of cryptocurrencies will make it more efficient to trade and process assets. (PANews report)
