According to Sing Tao Daily, the second phase of cross-border payment technology testing of digital yuan (eCNY) in HK in July last year has been largely completed. As the first company to participate in the test, Bank of China Hong Kong (BOCHK) launched two phases of the Priority Experience Programme from December last year to February this year, opening up a total of 2,100 customers to try the eCNY. Customers mainly use eCNY for consumption in the mainland, especially in scenarios such as catering and retail for small-scale high-frequency transactions. Market participants said frankly that at this stage, the application scenarios of eCNY in HK are limited, even if there are not too many application scenarios in the mainland for the time being.
